WE CAN HELP YOU DOCUMENT CRIME

One of our clients owned a piece of land in Appalachia. He came to see it one fall day and to his shock found it had been logged. His own brother, who was living on the property, stole from him when he let some loggers cut the trees. They paid the brother for the trees, and left stumps and branches all around without trying to clean up the land.

The brother was found dead in the house, with a couple thousand dollars of cash in his wallet and a receipt for the logs. We called the county coroner to verify the brother’s death was a natural one. We got the police report of his death for clues. The receipt and the police report led us to the loggers. They said they got permission to log. They didn’t check at the county recorder of deeds office to make sure the brother was the landowner. Bad move, because he wasn’t. They were on the hook for some money now, but didn’t know it yet.

We contacted the sawmill where the logs went and got prices paid for the logs. A lady forester with the U.S. Forest Service established value for the logs (the loggers paid a fair price to the brother) and a price for cleaning up and reclaiming the logged land. The loggers’ insurance company paid our client. This case didn’t stump us.

You can learn a lot by looking. We kept watch on a serial child-molesting felon who admitted to police he raped his preschool age girls and molested his kid sister and kid cousins. His sideline was chopping cars. By checking vehicle records and government regs and surveilling and photoing him, we proved he was evidently violating laws against volume car salvage and sales without a license, and he was evidently violating zoning laws and tax laws with his business. A relative with a Peeping Tom conviction owned one of the trucks used to drop off and pick up salvage vehicles.

Problem was Chester the Chopper (true name Scott Alan Dietz, dob 10/1/1963, shown in a sex offender registry) was shacked up with Jean Workman, an underling of Sherri Bevan Walsh, the horribly flawed county prosecutor of Summit County, Ohio. Chester’s connection to prosecutor protection evidently kept local police, sheriff’s deputies, and state police from busting him for his illegal business like they should have done. He was also protected when he evidently violated sex offender registration laws repeatedly.

Northeast Ohio is one of the most corrupt parts of the country. The two-party system there are the Democrats and the FBI. The former win elections; the latter send certain elected and appointed public officials to jail.

We want as many good people as possible to know the laws and force public officials to obey them.
